Clear herds

Under the Deer Refund Scheme, herds that have a clear TB status are eligible for refunds.

Are you in an annual Special Testing Area? (i.e. herd under annual test but not pre-movement testing).

  • No - eligible for ETB blood-test refund of lab costs and administration fees for up to three ETBs per annum.
  • Yes -  every second year, eligible for WHT refund of $ 2.50 + GST  per animal TB tested. ETB refund of laboratory costs and adminstration fees for up to three ETBs per year.

Payment requirements for clear herds

  • The Animal Health Board (AHB) must have received your bank account details and GST number.
  • The TB test results must be entered into the AHB database by your TB tester.

Please note

Owners do not need to send an invoice to receive payments since all information is taken directly from the AHB's database.

TB infected herds

If your herd is infected you are eligible for:

  • Whole herd test refund of $ 2.50 per animal.
  • Refund of the full costs for ancillary serial and ancillary parallel tests.
  • Compensation of up to the average schedule price for all reactors (lesioned and NVL) slaughtered up to a maximum of 100 reactors per herd per year. For the balance of reactors over the 100 threshold the farmer will receive reactor proceeds from the plant.

Payment requirements for infected herds

  • The herd must be compliant with a TB management plan developed with your District Disease Control Manager. If the herd was diagnosed as "Infected" from a TB test, the AHB will pay for the next whole herd test and all further testing. If the herd was diagnosed as "Infected" from a cull, the farmer will pay for the next whole herd test and the AHB will pay for further testing.
  • The AHB must have received your bank account details and GST number.
  • WHT, ancillary serial and parallel test results must be completed in the AHB database by your TB tester.

Reactor refund only

  • The Kill Sheet showing the amount paid for the reactor must have been sent in to AHB accounts.
  • A Permit to Move reactors to slaughter must be obtained.
  • The infected animal must be a TB reactor, not a cull.
  • Details need to be received by AHB within 90 days of the reactor slaughter.

Please note

Farmers are required to invoice AHB only for ancillary and parallel test payments, and to send in a Kill Sheet for reactor payments.
