Progress towards achieving the NPMS objective of 0.2% Annual Period Prevalence* rate infection continues to be ahead of forecast predictions.
As at 30 June 2008, the rate stood at 0.34%, compared to a forecast rate of approximately 0.6%.
This represents a total of 142 Tb-infected cattle and deer herds, made up of 126 cattle herds and 16 deer herds.
This represents the 14th consecutive year of declining bovine Tb rates in New Zealand.

* Annual Period Prevalence rate is the number of cattle and deer herds classified as infected at the start of the financial year, together with cattle and deer herds found infected during the financial year, divided by total cattle and deer herds, as a percentage.
